Thoughts on the Channel in 2025 and videos going forward in 2026

<![CDATA[The year is coming to a close the end of the year, and its around that time for me to start thinking what I should do for next year. Both in terms of personal growth and what I want to do for my youtube channel Nemes Content.

I also plan to make a video on this but I wanted to get these thoughts down on pap-… screen? Yeah.

Thoughts on Video output

Video output could have been a lot better this year. Something that was frustrating near the end of the year is that I know I can make these videos with in a reasonable about of time if I can hunker down and work on them as with the Animal Crossing Wild World Video.

In the same token I shouldn’t be beating myself up about that. I have a job. One that has long hours, trying to constantly push myself while I also have other responsibilities.

BUT! The good news is that the two videos that I want to get done these year was complete. My spiteful video on Video on Ford’s 200 dollar cheques, and the Canadian Election. I wasn’t expecting this to be so close together, I was hoping for a small break between the two. How foolish was I. Either way I consider this a success.

After that, and the horrors, I was burnt out until I could muster enough creative passion for that The Movies Commercial, and Animal Crossing Wild World and even some videos I edited for some friends.

Thoughts on Channel Analytics

Channel Analytics are always a fun thing to look through. It’s one of those things you shouldn’t take too seriously because of THE ALGORITHM, but you’ll find some weird

The first thing that I have to say is I’m shocked the Doug Ford video and the Canadian Election videos did as well as they did. I honestly thought no one would click on that and I was somewhat wrong. Though it was still fairly low compared to the average I am getting now.

But of course the more popular videos (and thankfully) was the VHS video and the Wild World Video as people were more generally engaged which is good to see. And that was a big pick me up because that’s generally the direction I want to take the channel and I think I learned alot about myself, my voice, and my process through those videos (Which I will discuss later.)

The VHS Commercial video got higher views, and a decent watch time, confirming that the longer videos are more a commitment. The Wild World video, on the other hand, has gained a similar watch time and retention despite being longer and having less views. I think this highlights that I need to trust my editing and filming ability despite how long I end up making videos. I still prefer if my videos were from 15-20 minutes at most as that is the average TV episode length. Perhaps I also need to spend more time on thumbnails as I’m sure that’s partly why the VHS video did so well was due to the A B testing.

Now despite barely making any shorts this year I found that some of my shorts just consistently relevant or get some spikes in popularity. As an example of the consistently relevant include the simpsons hit and run cheat code, Revenge of the flying dutchman, and the slai short as an example of videos that alwatys seem to be getting views in some aspects. Meanwhile my Pokemon nuzlocke safari video, and sims video has started to gain more traction recently for some reason and I’m not sure why. This kind of indicates that shorts, as much as they can be bain for the older creators like myself, do seem to gain more and more traction over time, even if they don’t always translate into long form watchers.

That being said with the Related videos feature being part of shorts now, this does incentives me to be clipping and repackaging my full long form videos.

Finally, I’m done with the compilation videos for now. They’re just not worth the effort that I could be putting into a full video, and I hardly had any funny footage this year due to issues.

2026 GamePlan

The game plan is simple. Take the first 2 month of the year to organize my file structure, and some asset generation I’ve been putting off, and some work on the longer from videos. It’s mostly getting a lot of pre-work done before getting into the groove for 2026.

However I so have SOME more specific plans:

Projects I want to finish next year: Sims 3 crime family and SLAI video

Considering how well I work when I have a low goal of making 1 to 2 videos this year seemed to help me at least get those two videos done, I am once again implmenting the goal of getting 2 videos done. The two I’ve been teasing since forever. The sims 3 crime family video, and the SLAI video. One way or another I am getting those done this year. I know they’ll do good, I just… need to record and write them. Sims 3 will take priority by the basis of SLAI being Hard as Hell, and kind of unfair at time. It’s no armor core, but you can lose a lot of credits fast in that game.

The Plan for Shorts

For shorts I just need to try and get ahead on them as soon as possible. First I need to complete some sly shorts that I’ve been wanting to make for ever, but never got around to VO and recording. Next is to work on as many shorts as I can to release them bi-weekly through out the year. That way I’m always posting something, even if I get busy with life stuff.

Ironically this was the plan in 2025, but I failed at that due a number of factors. Hopefully I actually complete this in 2026 and I can keep the momentum going into 2027. I also might be testing editting shorts on linux as I try to move off of microsoft was much as possible.

The General vibe I want for Videos

After the last two video, and the success of the Gaming shorts, I think I have better idea of what I want the vibe for the videos to be. I enjoyed the more laid back cozier feeling that was the Movies VHS “Lost Media” video, and the Animal Crossing video is what I like about gaming video I watch a lot of. Especially my lofi-like end cards has been a highlight. I think I want my videos to be more focused that sort of vibe and aesthetic going forward.

At the end of the day, I am nerd just wants to highlight cool games and tech, and some that is at least more than a decade old (my thirties are showing). This isn’t a new thing on youtube or even the internet but has been what I’ve been vibing with the most.

This does mean you’ll likely not get videos like the voting video on the main channel. I’m not Steve Boots, Frank Domenic, or Rachel Gilmore. I’ll probably always talk about these sorts of topics, but if you want creators that will focus on politics there are people much more equipted to handle that. Still glad I made those more serious videos, I even got some positive feed back on the voting video, but they also burnt me out more than usual which was not helped by the new at the time. Plus, it’s clear that the comfy gamer/tech nerd vibe is the better direction proven by the VHS and animal crossing views and watch time.

I’m not strictly looking at games and tech on the channel as one of the videos I’m working on is about the animated series Monkey Wrench, but that is where most of my interest and passion lies.

Now with that being said….

Secondary Channel? Mayhaps 2??? PERCHANGE 3

Even with this direction I want to go in for the channel, I’m still a person into more than one interest. “I can be a gaming obsessed nerd, AND WANT MASSIVE ELECTORAL AND DEMOCRACY REFORMS.” But with how youtube is set up it’s better compartmentalize content into multiple channels instead of everything being on one. so while the main will focused on gaming and tech, I think it’s time for a secondary channel for a cleaner experience.

I have 2 in mind that I don’t want to spoil as if I say them, they may not happen. I’ll say that one is based on a topic I’m very passionate about, and the other is based on a multiple hour long gaming story, that I’m still technically working on. And maybe a dnd related channel, but no confirmation on that for now.

Both of these will be test piloted or soft announced in videos I plan for the main channel, the only question is will this be a this year thing, or a next year thing. For one of the channels there’s a lot of prep involved, and the other requires me to look back at years old footage.

There is also the possibility for a “everything that I don’t want to post on the main channel” channel, but I’m unsure

Closing Thoughts

I think from 2026-2030 may be the 4 years I need to see if I can truly make this youtube thing work. I’m confident that I can, but I need to put effort into that I think seeing how 2026 will go will be an indicator on how well I can succeed on that. I will try to be kind to myself (hence the goal of those two videos) on one end, and will push myself on the other. Kind enough to realize some realities, but push myself to… actually stuff… consistently

There are things I want to make, and I intend to make them.

hr
A a href="https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCCnep562d6A4eKeOy-J5xxQ/"Nemes Content/a Blog 2022.]]>

Reevaluating My Relationship with The Internet

<![CDATA[(AKA I need to to stop doom scrolling)

WARNING: I get a little vulnerable here in the beginning here. You have been warned.

I’m sure I’ve said something to this effect in the past, even on this very blog. But I think its time I start to re-evalutate my relationship with Tech and the Internet.

2025 has been rough for a few reasons. I can just gesture at “The Horrors” that’s been making me more anxious for months now, when hurt my back by, no joke, coughing funny, and then coughing too hard that hurt it again, fighting with my allergies, and work being… work.

During the summer and most of fall, I got super depressed there for a while. and during that time I was doing a lot of doomscrolling. At home, in public, and in worse in bed! This was especially bad on Youtube Shorts and on Bluesky. With YT Shorts I was mindlessly scrolling through videos for that dopamine hit, and Bluesky I was basically reposting ever anxiety that I was having.

!--more--

It got so bad that I was laying in bed staring at my phone and saying to myself. “Oh god… I’m going to die with stupid black box in my hand and hardly achieve anything.”

What partially helped me out of this funk was playing DnD with some trusted friends, and help edit two videos for friends one you can watch here: The 5D Chess Experience

Once I had flexed my creativity a bit, I knew that if I wanted to maintain this I had to make a change with my relationship with tech, and what I think the next year’s yearly theme will be: The Year of Ritual or The Year of Touching Grass.

I think I will talk more on that in another post and a video I’ll… probably make at the end of the year. We’ll see. For now I just wanted to write down my thoughts on how I will focus my energy

Limiting time on Social Media (namely bluesky)

I made a post on Bluesky mentioning how I was going have a “Soft Break” from Social Media. I said soft break because I still wanted to repost my friend’s post, and when I finally post a video I wanted to post. This because there were different times this year I was falling for ragebait, getting into long arguments, and reposting WAY TOO MUCH. The latter being really bad during that depression period. If I wasn’t reposting memes, I was reposting outrage, the current news, hot takes. Not only does that make my page a mess, I was fucking miserable dude, and I don’t think those that followed me was much better.

I want to make something very clear. I think it’s valid to be outraged right now. I think it’s valid to be angry, and frustrated, and want things to get better. These are all natural ways to respond to all this. Because it’s all Bullshit. But at some point… you have to step away.

And that’s HARD for me. I’ve always struggled with letting go. But I have to accept I’m not going to change the world by typing on an endless feed of text posts. To put that kind of pressure is only causing more anguish.

The more frustrated I became, the more I would post. I looked deep inside myself and asked. “Am I really making any sort of impact by posting about this stuff?”

It would be one thing it I was volunteer for an organization or even had an audience I could sway, or mobilize with my words. And even then, there are much more productive ways to spend that time and promote change than being part of an online flood of text. The scope’s too big, the reach is too small, and chasing validation from users who might largely be bots. So much effort for little gains.

I’m still passionate about what I believe, and I’ll likely not shut up about caring about the rights of my fellow man, and I’ve invested so much time into electoral reform that I refuse to not still bring it up, but I need to redirect that energy to something that won’t completely drain me.

So I made the decided that I’m going to focus on supporting my friends and trying to take the joy for genuine joy. I can’t support every cause, and ONE MAN cannot change the world. But I can at least try to help my friends not feel as alone, and try to help them get through this time of fuckery.

Also “Joy as Resistance” is a much more helpful phrasing than “Don’t worry about the world, worry about \[YOU\]” Because it doesn’t dismiss the concerns of people raising them, but recognizes it. Because even if you’re in the thick of it, even you need to recharge if you are able to. Because you can not allow those who wist to do you harm to steal that joy away. Because that nihilism is a slow, and insidious killer that robs you of your energy.

Yes I wanted to write that last bit because “Don’t worry about the world, worry about \[YOU\]” bothers me to my core anytime I’ve my current anxiety about the world to my boomer parents. Sure this isn’t direct political action, but I’m not pretending that it is.

The Need to Get Over FOMO

Now despite what I just said about helping my friends there’s another side of the coin that I need to address… And that’s been hopping onto just about every discord call.

Listen I love my friends. Both in the flesh and in digital. in fact dare I say they’ve kept me sane for the past 5 years. But I’ve also realized that I can’t spend every day in a discord call and still get thing done

There’s reasons for this that I can psychoanalyze, I don’t want to be in the position where I say something along the lines of “I wished I spent more time with my friends and family.” and due to a personal experience I won’t get into, I get worried about what would happen if I gave hanging out a pass. I have tendency to want to spend as much time with friends and family despite being an introvert.

But also… I have video I want to make, and responsibilities I need to take care of. I think in need to remind myself that so long as I’m not constantly turning down my friends for discord calls, or meet ups with my local\ friends, I’ll always have another chance to join in. Balance is sort of key here.

This is also ironic when I am writing this up after having lovely discord call with said friends lol.

\and by local I mean… Near the GTA haha.

Playlists on Youtube - To Combat Decisions Paralysis

There’s many things that I need to do with my relationship to YouTube as a source of entertainment. One of the main ones is making playlists of songs for when I’m doing chores or other work that requires low concentration. I have tendency to go to the music recommendations and get hit with decision paralysis and I find the YouTube mixes to be not great. I need less time trying to figure out what I want to listen to and more time doing what I need to do. The easiest way is for me to just make a big playlist of all the songs I would typically listen to, and then just shuffle when I need to.

Now another approach would be to go old school and rip all my music, and make a local playlist of songs on my phone and computers. Maybe even be a little extra and make a self-hosted streaming service for myself and family or at least synced up with syncthing. But that’s a work in progress.

Forums - To Fight Social Media’s Pull

Before the centralized social media being the main hubs for communication on the web, there were BBSes/forums. Technically there still are plenty of forums, but they seem to be less used now a days when social media and messaging platforms dominate this space.

What I’m finding now with Social Media is that everything is optimized for doing big numbers, whether it be views, likes, or replies. All optimized for some uncaring algorithm. And it’s all effectively one big feed (filtered for you habits) to keep you on as long as possible. Good for consumption, not so much for communications.

Sure discord servers are an option, and I’m part of a handful, but they are first and foremost a messaging platform first, so it feels as though it needs to be an imminent response. Discord servers can be HUGE, and I struggle to keep up with them. Plus you still have the issue that discord is a centralized service which has its own problems. Forums are a lot slower, often focused on their niche or community, fairly smaller, and are run and hosted independently from some centralized company.

Ultimately that is why I decided to join a handful in the hopes to have generally better conversations than what I’ve gotten from bluesky, and twitter besides friends.

There are currently 4 that I am apart of which aligned with my interest:

Johto Times - A forums for a Pokemon Fan Zine

Demodisc - Addie/Epos Vox’s Forum

Accursed Farms - Ross Scott’s Forum for his Channel

Frutiger Aero Archive - Forum for a site that documents aesthetics around the 2000s-2010s

If anyone has a some recommendations I’ll happily take a look. :)

RSS - To Fight Some Temptations

I’ve talked about rss before. To be honest that article probably needs updating. Basically before people started following everyone else of social media pages, RSS would be one way to receive website updates. Many sites still have them such as for the news, but even youtube channels can be follow this way.

The reason for this is so I’m not relying on social media for most of my news, and to follow channels that might infrequently upload or I have a high chance of missing their content. I also wouldn’t mind following some more thoughtful blogs and web comics too!

Discipline and Awareness - Breaking Habits is Hard

Naturally, I could do all the replacement in the world. Yes, it’s bad to eat a full tub of ice cream in one sitting, but eating a whole bunch of grapes would yield similar effects. … At least with my stomach intolerant ass. Idk why that is.

It’s easy to slip back into just scrolling on my phone, or go down rabbit holes. There are 3 main ways I can go about trying to resist this:

1. Discipline Myself

“Just don’t do it bro” as said easier said than done. But if I don’t start off with me trying to intentionally get better about my use of the internet, and technology then… Well… Why am I writing this?

I have to try to resist the urge to fall into a habit of the doomscroll, or reply to outrage, or feed into my anxiety. Being mindful and trying to get myself to do other things is the whole point of this change.

2. Catching Myself

When that fails I need to train myself to be aware when I’m doing this. I’m mostly calling myself out for when I’m scrolling on YT shorts endlessly. When I’m in this state it is up for me to recognize what I am doing and then go to do. Something else. Whether that be working on the video, playing a game or even watching a movie.

To quote myself in that bluesky thread, literally is more productive for me to do anything else than be scrolling aimlessly on text or vertical video apps. Better I get up and do something else.

3. Rituals in Routine

This came up on a video by Epos Vox on his Lost Saves channel talking about Routines and Rituals. I highly suggest anyone who’s been struggling finding a spark in their adult life to give it watch. It’s very insightful.

If think its best that I try finding a little routine for myself. Not sure how that will look considering my work weeks look more like two weeks (long story), and I work on a rotation. However, I think it is becoming important that I have a “movie night” or a “go to store day.” Like I still need to watch the original Trigun guys. I’ve joked about this before but you’d be surprised how helpful it is to go outside guys. and interact with people? and have it be a good experience?! wild.

I’ll probably speak more to this in the “Yearly Theme” post I’ll make later. I will say I’ve tried to be more spontaneous in my adult hood, and while it kind of is the best way to be with my schedule, it’s felt aimless lately. I might als need dedicated days where I work on something for even 1-2 hours on my off days.

Will I Succeed Where I’ve Failed Before?

This isn’t the first time I’ve tried to do something like this. After all… look how dead this blog has been for. I always get this burst of needing or wanting to do something to this effect, and then slip back into some pretty bad habits. RSS is something I keep forgetting to use as an example.

I don’t think there’s any magic change this time around either tbh. Just that I’m older, more tired, disillusioned with social media, needing that human connection again, needed to fight atomization of the human experience, not wanting to be as solitary anymore.

I am not going to make a declarative “This time will be different.” I’m fighting against years of habits I’ve accumulated for 20+ years. But, it is important that I try. That I be mindful of this. That make the effort. That rebel not only against my habits, but the corpos that want to rob me of all my attention and joy.

It is my life. I need to take back the agency for it.

hr
A a href="https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCCnep562d6A4eKeOy-J5xxQ/"Nemes Content/a Blog 2022.]]>

(AKA I need to to stop doom scrolling)

Also “Joy as Resistance” is a much more helpful phrasing than “Don’t worry about the world, worry about [YOU]” Because it doesn’t dismiss the concerns of people raising them, but recognizes it. Because even if you’re in the thick of it, even you need to recharge if you are able to. Because you can not allow those who wist to do you harm to steal that joy away. Because that nihilism is a slow, and insidious killer that robs you of your energy.

Yes I wanted to write that last bit because “Don’t worry about the world, worry about [YOU]” bothers me to my core anytime I’ve my current anxiety about the world to my boomer parents.

I think in need to remind myself that so long as I’m not constantly turning down my friends for discord calls, or meet ups with my local* friends, I’ll always have another chance to join in. Balance is sort of key here.

This is also ironic when I am writing this up after having lovely discord call with said friends lol.

*and by local I mean… Near the GTA haha.

Playlists on Youtube – To Combat Decisions Paralysis

Forums – To Fight Social Media’s Pull

Johto Times – A forums for a Pokemon Fan Zine

Demodisc – Addie/Epos Vox’s Forum

Accursed Farms – Ross Scott’s Forum for his Channel

Frutiger Aero Archive – Forum for a site that documents aesthetics around the 2000s-2010s

If anyone has a some recommendations I’ll happily take a look. :)

RSS – To Fight Some Temptations

I’ve talked about rss before. To be honest that article probably needs updating. Basically before people started following everyone else of social media pages, RSS would be one way to receive website updates. Many sites still have them such as for the news, but even youtube channels can be follow this way.

The reason for this is so I’m not relying on social media for most of my news, and to follow channels that might infrequently upload or I have a high chance of missing their content. I also wouldn’t mind following some more thoughtful blogs and web comics too!

Discipline and Awareness – Breaking Habits is Hard

3. Rituals in Routine

This came up on a video by Epos Vox on his Lost Saves channel talking about Routines and Rituals. I highly suggest anyone who’s been struggling finding a spark in their adult life to give it watch. It’s very insightful.

Will I Succeed Where I’ve Failed Before?

That I’ve paid for… until 2028.

It really just comes down to me being too busy with life stuff to sit down and write stuff, even for the channel. my focus by and large this year has been on job work which has been a challenge. I’m starting to see why so many blogs are seem to have gaps in between posts….

!--more--

Originally I was going to have a long update post that would be a companion to an update video I did for the youtube channel. One big theme of that video was me grappling with my mortality a bit, and wanting to complete more things like videos. The problem is that a lot of things I want to talk about has this issue of being time sensitive, and as much I want to make videos, working a job that leaves drained on my days off is making that quite hard. Because on top of writing, I also need to record audio and video, and make that all come together for editting. Which takes time, and while I am trying to prioritize videos accordingly I unfortunately do not have unlimited free time.

So that will be where this blog comes in. A place for not only scripts for videos (because ), but thoughts that may never become videos.
Bluesky Starter Guide Script

<![CDATA[Disclaimers: This is a script taken from a video guide of Bluesky. It is imperfect, I have yet to taken the time to adapt all my sources into the text as I am locking down twitter this week. I will add a handful of more experienced people than I at the beginning of this post if you want to drill down, and will be properly citing and even adding pictures later.

I am also not talking about atproto in this video/script. that’s a whole other can of worms and I have decided to make that a separate video

A handful of important links:

Chris Titus’s video on getting started

Jglypt’s gettign started guide
Jglypt’s guide on skyfeed (since I talk about feeds in this video/script)

Rudy Fraser’s Moderation explanation

The script:

Can things just stop exploding for 5 minutes?! Like Damn! I feel like a new issue I care about pops up every week and I just can't cover it all! Don't they realize I work a full time job and I'm a very... very tired man.

The issue this time... is that twitter decided to make block useless, AND Solidify it's AI scraper. Have I mentioned I hate this site, and its owner. Except I kept it because of friends and moots. Especially when I really got into a proportional representation and Canadian politics rabbit hole. I am regretful of the latter fact.

Luckily, Friends are at least going to one of the two alternatives that I have semi-regularly use, Bluesky. Making the need to be on Twitter way less. But what is the deal with Bluesky, and what makes it different than twitter?

Well in this guide I hope to demystify some stuff about

Getting Started

Account

First you'll need an account. Head over to bsky.app and click sign up. Add in your email, password, and birth date. Don't worry about your hosting provider, Bluesky is what 99% of you are going to use, unless you're nerd. And nerder than me.

Then Make your handle, this is how people will find you on the site. The full handle will be what you type in plus your host's domain, unless you add a custom domain after you make your account.

Once you make all your stuff and confirm your email.

Starter Packs and Sky Follower Bridge

So you're in Bluesky... Who to follow? Well if you're coming from twitter, there's this thing call Sky Follower Bridge which allows you to see who on twitter you follow also has a bluesky account. Just login to the extention with your bluesky account details or with a onetime password while on the following screen and just follow who you want follow from there.

Or if you want to start fresh Users can create these Starter Packs that they can send to new users. Thinking of them like recommendations from users for users. from there you can view profiles from the lists, follow them individually or all together. I've went ahead and made a handful of starter packs of people I think are neat. But there's about starter packs for everything if you go searching through keywords or feeds.

Lets go into what makes this similar to twitter. Not hard as Twitter has been THE Microblogging platform for years so lets start with posts:

Posts

When making posts you have a 300 character limit. as of the time of writing you can add emojis, up to 4 images, gif support and recently video support up to 50MB, 1 minute videos limited to 25 videos per day apparently. Also adding links will actually show to a preview of a card if it supports it such as for youtube videos which was more reliable than twitter ever was, you can even remove the link once the card is created. And discord supports most bluesky embeds of posts without having to add extra letters with the exception of videos at the moment. For videos posted to the site, use cbsky.app when sending the link

These post can set there reply settings by everyone, mentioned users, followed users, users in select lists, or nobody, and can even turn off Quotes.

Posts are the bread and butter of twitter likes, and Bluesky does these posts in spades. the only thing it's missing right now is polls, but I personally don't mind that so much.

Lists

Lists take 3 forms. We've mentioned starter packs, but there's also follow lists, and moderation lists. Follow lists might be what you know in twitter as lists. These are a subsection users that you add to a list for filtered experience, that you can pin to your home like I do with my vibes list. Moderation lists are public lists of people that you don't vibe with and either want to mute or block. These lists can then be subscribed to by others. A very popular one that people pass around is the Anti/AI/Crypto Shill List. I kind of wish there was away to review followers part of those lists and double check if you want those exempted, or to remix your own block/mute list.

BTW since we're on the topic of blocking

Moderation options

Muted words and tags filters out posts with words and tags that you add. This can be for a certain duration, for text and tags or just tags only. These rules can be ignored by post of those you follow. This can be useful in trying to avoid certain topics, nasty words, and even spoiler from your favorite manga and/or anime!

Mutes prevents you from seeing any notifications or top-level posts from an account. If they reply to a thread, you’ll see a section that says ‘Post from an account you muted’ with an option to show the post. The account will not know that they have been muted.”

Blocks are so strong here that it not only removes all interactions and prevents future interactions such as likes, replies, mentions, DMs or follows and their posts are hidden form you.

Moderation lists can be viewed under moderation as well. As mentioned, Moderations lists are good for mass blocking or muting.

Bluesky Content Filters are filters for content on the network that is labeled under certain filters such as adult content, impersonation, and scams. You can be as stick or about as lax about these filters as you want. We'll talk more about labelers and their role on bluesky in depth later.

A note on blocks and 3rd party apps

Something I need to mentioned and is that blocks are publicly viewable via the Api. This is part of maintaining that Bluesky is an Open and Public network. There is this third party app called Clearsky that shows you who a user is blocking, who they're blocked by, and what lists they're on. Now I know some people have issues with this, others say it's not a big deal. I don't think I can comment! I just know it's important to mention.

There's also Blockenheimer that lets you mass block who have reposted, liked a post, followers an account or what an account is following. You can either add these to a list, or just mass block from the app. Useful if you come across nasty people and probably don't want to deal with their following either. Just keep in mind that this is a nuclear option. hence the name.

Note that two use these third party apps such as Blockenheimer or Skyfeed, you will need to generate a 1 time "App Password" to use to login. Just a security precaution.

DMs / Chat

A more recent feature. You have the ability to allow messages from Everyone, Users I follow, and even no one. Blocked users are not able to dm you, but muted users are. Eventually it's suppose to get End-to-End Encryption, media in Dms, and Group DMs. Its still a work in progress, but it does work if you need it to.

Okay now that we're done with all the similarities to Twitter now lets get into the user facing things that make Bluesky stand out:

Feeds

You might have heard that bluesky has no Algorithm. This is... Technically true... but it's about as helpful as saying mastodon and the fediverse is like email. It's more accurate to say that Bluesky does not have a centralized, singular Big-A Algorithm like most social media, but a butch of user curated feeds with different algorithmic preferences that people can subscribe to, and pin to home like you would with your lists.

Anyone can make a feed either through either using a service such as skyfeed, or bluesky feed creator or even manually coding and hosting their own if you know what you're doing.

Many of these are topic focused feeds that filter down to certain topics via hashtags, keywords, people (via lists or single users) in a chronological order but this can get very granular such as displaying only certain types of media, only your mentions, or push pins. The sky's the limit. And your understanding of variables, and coding of course.

Some of my favourites include:

Quiet Poster: For those that follow people that maybe post once in a blue moon, but want to still see what they're up to.

Mutuals: because it always nice keeping up with moots moot

Everything Ps2: Please take a guess, I wonder why I might follow that one.

Popular with friends: Shows you all the popular content from accounts you follow and what they like. Good for new comers if you have a lot of people you follow that you trust.

The Gram: shows only the posts contanting pictures from those you follow. Helpful for those that follow a lot of artists.

Pushpin emoji: because there's no bookmarks on the offical app and it's useful for finding old post.

OverheardBsky: for when you're in a late night tumblr posting kind of mood, and want to read some unhinged.

I also took the time as of writing this to use Skyfeed's built-in feed builder to create a few feeds. Most of them are to filter out update posts or videos I post or share. Other Feeds I've made that's less narcissistic is a Rumbleverse Feed that filters the rumbleverse supporter's feed but Rumbleverse warrior only when there's a rumbleverse post. And just a general curation of artist I think are neat.

I think what nice about having these custom feeds curated by users for users is that it makes community a bit more fluid than a fediverse instance, but less of a toxic hazard than twitter. You don't have to worry about taking psychic damage from Twitter's algorithm, or be worried that you're not able to reach certain people beyond your Mastodon instance. What Feeds you follow, are ultimately up to you, and paired with mutes, blocks and labelers make for ultimately a better curated user experience. It's like going to your community center or library and living a little instead of just working and going home.

Did I just call myself out?

Oh wait I still got to talk about labelers

Labelers

Labelers are effectively Content Filters you can subscribe to that allows you to filter out or label content and users via certain parameters to either Warn the user of the post, hide that content or user all together, or simply add a badge next on the post or poster. These also can be turned off if there's some labels part of the labeler you don't care to see on the site.

These filters can used for something as nasty as racism, Sexism, homophobia, transphobia, to simply filtering out pictures of say pictures of spiders, or AI images, or even just giving badge for something a bit more fun like TTRPG Labeller. I'm a halfling magus. I'm lil that casts the pew pews.

The key example for a moderation style labeler is Bluesky's "main" Moderation Filter that is used for most sexual or graphic content to name a few things.

A lot of this is done to a reporting system, or a reply forum like the Pronouns Labeler. however, some labelers have some sort of automation bots attached to them like the aforementioned TTRPG Labeler.

What's nice about the labelers is I think this is better than relying on the Tumblr etiquette of say relying on proper tagging, and "anti-" tagging. It's cool if you still want to do that, but you always have people who don't follow those rules.

One weakness of the Labelers is that these are hosted services that run independent from the network. This means that this service can go offline and removed. Now this means that these services can go offline without disrupting the whole network, but that means if the labeler goes offline then those that are labelled that you are using to warn or hide no longer has those applied to them.

This was seen when one of the high profile labelers basically imploded after some "drama" that I'm not going to get into because it's in the past, I don't know the whole story, and it's beyond the scope of this video. Just trust me when I say some vibes were off, and that's a gross understatement.

But I think it does bring up important questions about relying on these mostly community supported services, Backing up any important work, not trying to do too much, and the importance of verifying moderators. That again is beyond the scope of this video, I even feel unequipped to deal with that, but is still like massively important to at least mention for a social platform.

Generally, I still think Labelers are good concept in this two part "Opinionated Services" but I think only time will tell how well these can actually work as the network matures.

And Yeah that's about it for the network, but I wanted to include one more thing before we end things off.

Following people from the Fediverse and through RSS Because I have no better place to put this.

Something I wanted to add that I don't have really any other place to put this. So lets say you have someone you want to follow on bluesky but you're on mastodon, or vis versa. interoperability is super important for these kinds of socials. While there is a 3rd partyy too that will help with this. Bridgy, fed is a decentralized social network bridge. This can be used to follow people on and from bluesky, fediverse, and even from some websites if the admin has added that functionality.

But we only really care about Bluesky and mastodon in this example.

If you are on bluesky you need to follow \@ap.brid.gy\ on Bluesky. Accept its follow to make sure your fediverse posts get sent the bridge and make it into Bluesky. After a some time, you will appear in the fediverse as \@\[handle\]@bsky.brid.gy\ so in my case @nemescontent@bsky.brid.gy the you should be able to search for other Fediverse addresses in searchbar. To search for poeple on the fediverse, you will need their full address, and search under people.

If you are on mastodon or other fediverse account, search for and follow \@bsky.brid.gy@bsky.brid.gy\ That account will then follow you back. Accept its follow to make sure your fediverse posts get sent the bridge and make it into Bluesky. On Blue sky your account will appear as: \\[user\].\[instance\].ap.brid.gy\ so as an example: @NemesContent.mstdn.ca.ap.brid.gy

For more information, take a look at the documentation that I'll link in the pinned comment. Bridgyfed

You can also follow people via rss on bluesky by putting /rss at the end of the profile url, but it's only so helpful. you only see the text of the post and media. This how it works on mastodon as well, but it is disappointing.

Conclusion or is it?

And that's about big main things to let you all know about. The network is still in development with a bunch features promised, but trust me this is way more improved than when it was back in the invite stage. Psst thanks marideerie... you guys should like... follower her or something.

I think Bluesky has some potential. it being more focused on user curation and simplifying some processes that Mastodon. It's actually something I wanted that I mentioned in a write as blog I have, rambled well written, where the user should have this kind of control.

That being said. I have been researching, and using bluesky for... a while now. And Through that Research I have learned... Deeper knowledge. And burdened with said knowledge, I need to get it out of my system. You need to understand this script is the 3rd script of me trying to make this damn video, and I'm in too deep now. IT's skunk cost falasy so if I had spend a good few months of my life to learn this information just so I can understand what the hell firehose and why it's hooked up to a relay to populate feeds on Data Sever is you're going to fucking SIT THERE- AND IM'!

hr
A a href="https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCCnep562d6A4eKeOy-J5xxQ/"Nemes Content/a Blog 2022.]]>

Note that two use these third party apps such as Blockenheimer or Skyfeed, you will need to generate a 1 time “App Password” to use to login.

The key example for a moderation style labeler is Bluesky's “main” Moderation Filter that is used for most sexual or graphic content to name a few things.

A lot of this is done to a reporting system, or a reply forum like the Pronouns Labeler. however, some labelers have some sort of automation bots attached to them like the aforementioned TTRPG Labeler.

What's nice about the labelers is I think this is better than relying on the Tumblr etiquette of say relying on proper tagging, and “anti-” tagging.

Generally, I still think Labelers are good concept in this two part “Opinionated Services” but I think only time will tell how well these can actually work as the network matures.

If you are on bluesky you need to follow [@ap.brid.gy](https://bsky.app/profile/ap.brid.gy) on Bluesky. Accept its follow to make sure your fediverse posts get sent the bridge and make it into Bluesky. After a some time, you will appear in the fediverse as `@[handle]@bsky.brid.gy` so in my case @nemescontent@bsky.brid.gy the you should be able to search for other Fediverse addresses in searchbar. To search for poeple on the fediverse, you will need their full address, and search under people.

If you are on mastodon or other fediverse account, search for and follow `@bsky.brid.gy@bsky.brid.gy` That account will then follow you back. Accept its follow to make sure your fediverse posts get sent the bridge and make it into Bluesky. On Blue sky your account will appear as: `[user].[instance].ap.brid.gy` so as an example: @NemesContent.mstdn.ca.ap.brid.gy

Hey Long Time No See - A Summer Update

<![CDATA[Hey It’s been like… \checks calendar\ 7 months since I’ve made a post on here. So here’s a small update since then.

Last time I moved to a new city due to changes with my job leading to a lot of stress, which lead to flaring up some health issues that forces me to take a break from creating content, and a soft break for social media so I could get some of my life in order and adjust to these changes.

Technically I’ve been off of this break since March-ish with me putting efforts into some original shorts but I’ve basically have taken things in terms of bigger projects. I’m better. Things aren’t quite how they were before all the changes, but things are stable, and I know have some support if I need it.

With all that being said I wanted to share some thoughts and plans real quick.

!--more--

Youtube Videos

Let’s start with my videos. Currently I’ve been working on the 3rd and Final Rumbleverse video, and with any luck should be out this month. I reason this took so long was due to the aforementioned job changes, going to BC for a trip, and Getting sick twice (once with covid, that not fun :D) among other things. I also kept making Shorts instead of focusing on the video, which ended up being important for getting me motivated again, it did drag on the editing stage of the video. This month I’ve paused any shorts creation until the video is complete and uploaded.

With all that said, I’ve accepted at this point, videos or anything for that matter gets done when they get done. It’s really hard to grind on consistently videos when you work for 12 hours a day on a rotating schedule, and then need to do other life stuff. I would love to put all my effort into making the back log of videos I’ve scripted for, but I need to make sure I have money so I can do that.

I think my main strategy after this video is make a back log of shorts for a month, so there’s a steady flow of content while I work on the bigger videos.

I’m also curious about if you guys wouldn’t mind smaller, less edit heavy videos like my video on ProjectKO? I’m skeptical they’ll do well but I’m curious what people think.

About Streams + Channel 4 year anniversary

At the end of last year, I started streaming on youtube and even experimented with dual streaming to twitch. With my work changes, getting demotivated on the last 2 streams, and some fun things I’ve learned about stream elements CEO, lead me to more or less abandoning my streams for the time being.

That being said, I did find out that this is my fourth year of doing youtube and I wanted to do a stream of me going through my old content. Because I liked old dvd commentary tracks, and I find creator’s process interesting, so maybe others would as well. And you know, it’s always entertaining to watch someone cringe at their oldself. I’m still deciding on a date but it will likely being july 31st or August 1st

Afterward I’ll largely be working on videos, however I’ll also be working on seeing if I can transition to Mix It Up or maybe streamer bot but we’ll see, and playing it by ear form there.

Some Social Media Thoughts (The Hell that’ s X(itter))

Hey, guess what guys? A mental health debuff gets lifted when you don’t have twitter on your phone notifying you of Bad takes, and whatever Elon’s pushing down your throat. I also highly recommend if you need to still use the hell site, Block liberally, and use lists for vibes and friends, when you don’t want to see the algorithm’s sludge.

A post I made on the AT Protocol Powered Whitewind Talked about my current feelings about still using Twitter as that’s where many people I follow, and my mutuals and friends are on there I want to keep up with them. However, the constant enshittification of twitter, and Elon’s clear bias and affiliations has made it clear that using it is morally complicated.

I’ve made the decision that after I make the Rumbleverse post, and the Anniversay stream I’ll severely being limiting my use with Twitter as a test for about a month or 2. While I enjoy tweeting about Proportional Representation, and tweeting at my friends, my time with having twitter off my phone made me realize most the twitter information is not very useful and I’m better of not geting stuck in doomscrolling. I also want to actually try not being as active on twitter will change anything.

I plan to instead post more casually on Blueksy and ActivityPub (Mastodon) when I do. I’ve been enjoying my time both platforms far more than twitter, but I’m still learning more about them. Consider joining or subbing via rss ; . But first thing first, I got to post the rumbleverse video.

With all that said, I still need to better about my social media useage as I could be better about using Bluesky and Mastodon too. While they’re marginally better communities (atm), Spending the same amount as I would on twitter is still ultimately counter productive. I’ve been making a move to cut down on the notifications I have on my phone and other places as these places do not need my constant attention, and I’ve found it helps with some of my social media compulsion, though I am finding I need to start replacing the compulsion with better habits. I know I’ve been saying things like that for years, but this is a process I’m trying to get better with.

About this Blog

I want to get back into using this blog. I can’t promise much consistency, but I do have a few ideas for articles on here for if/when I can find the time. Mostly because I miss posting on here and I’ve neglected it. I even have a few idea of what I could right, like more about my feeling son modern web, Tips, rick and applications I’ve collected over the years, and probably even some Guides for Mastodon and Bluesky that I’ll make accompanying videos for. The Possiblities are endless!

Eventually, a friend might be helping me more with actually making a site, but that’s probably in the distant future. For now this is the best place to see me ramble! I’ll be sure to post it on the socials, or you can subscribe via RSS or even email (remember that? lol)!

and that’s about it. I’m going to go sleep now. Until then I’ve been Nemes

hr
A a href="https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCCnep562d6A4eKeOy-J5xxQ/"Nemes Content/a Blog 2022.]]>

<![CDATA[In previous posts on this blog, I mentioned some big life changes that I’ve been working through. I’ve had to move, have my job, and work schedule change. While I thought I would be able to adjust quickly, and be up and running now. This unfortunately did not happen.

In light of some personal information about my health, and in recent events (neither of which I want to get into here) I think I need to step back from the internet and focus on myself for some time.

!--more--

While I’d argue that is the modern internet is not the main reason for current mood and health, I cannot deny that the constant scroll, and chasing that dopamine drip has affected my mental health. I have made the decision that many people have suggested to me, and I will be deleting twitter from my phone as I find I do the most scrolling on that (less so Mastodon and Bluesky, but a whole other topic).

It partly feels irresponsible to disconnect in such an away when the world is in such a state, but I have found that I tend to focus on that with not much I can actually do a lot of the time. Doing so has caused me to spiral into despair as I “doomscrolling”. Perhaps that’s melodramatic, but it is how I feel, and I know this only expediting my fears, and anxieties that are starting to affect my life.

I am also just not as motivated to create stuff as I was just before all this happened. It’s hard to work on things when you’re feeling constant stress, and you’re not getting proper rest because of that stress. This means my projects such as the final rumbleverse video will have to be pushed back and for that I am sorry. When I do feel motivated for videos and the like, I’ll likely start with some shorts and less intensive projects (I still have an out of context video to make for example) to ease me back into it when I have more time.

Not the best for views, but I need create and try and remember I don’t lose anything from a bad performing video. All I know is one of my passions is making content… no videos! Making dumb, but entertaining videos! and I’d hate to see that fade away because I burned myself out or I don’t take the time for me to be okay.

I will still be around for my friends, (hanging around discords, watching their streams) and I’m not going away, going away. Frankly, I think a lot of the friends I’ve made, and few from my past that have reached out have helped me stay somewhat sane for the past few years. You’ve helped me in more ways than you know. And for that I thank you.

I’ll be back, and creating when I can, but as of right now I need to take care of myself.
So... An Update, were I've been, and the (Near) Future

<![CDATA[Heeeeyyyyy… long time no see. Ah ha ha… So how are you. #update

Okay last post I said I was going to do one last big push of content before December where I was going to take a break. Yeah a lot has changes since then.

By the end of that same month, my job went from a work at home situation to coming into the office. With being several cities over that means I have to move closer to my work, and move fast. This what I’ve been stressing about and have not been able to work on videos since the beginning of October.

I have found a place but I still need to get through of the paper work and such. Seeing as this will be a big adjustment for me, I won’t be working much on videos until I am settled and likely won’t start uploading until next year but we’ll see.

!--more--

In The Meantime

I won’t be completely dormant but I will use this time to finish up my script for the final part of my rumbleverse trilogy and some graphics related stuff. I think it’s the right balance of letting me adjust to my new living situation, and still be working on some stuff for the channel.

Mostly this means scripts and assets. I’ve taken a liking to the overlays bunnii has made for me, and I kind of want to lean into that more into that kind of vibe and aesthetic (Psst, By the way you should commission him! he does good work). With any luck once I’m adjusted the channel will have a new look a be little more polished. Plus I might have a png for streams but we’ll see.

Next Year’s Plans

So what does that mean for next year? Well being on my own I won’t need to worry about making too much noise around family, and I don’t need to schedule around them as much being in different living spaces. Also well my work schedule is kind of wonky I can at least see one day a week where I can just work on stuff.

I have many things that I want to do and videos to make. The first big focus will be on the last rumbleverse video I plan to release on the anniversary of the game shutting down. Not only do I need to finish that script but it’s the perfect time release video.

Around the same time I want to make an update video about this change officially, a complication video of this year’s best moments, and even separate one for only the original shorts.

From there, I’m going to start working through the videos I have on the backlog which are largely tech related. Video games will still be a topic on the channel, (and I will even be doing streams when I get back in the swing of things), but I did find some of my most fun was on the capture card videos, and I feel like those videos capture a kind of thesis statement I want for the channel. AKA silly Canadian man streams of conscious is way through a a tech adventure…

I have numerous videos that I have planned with that in mind, including that damn linux I keep talking about. I won’t a schedule for when these come out but as I’ve said: I am hoping with a room to myself I can set aside at least one day a week to recording/editing as opposed the current get as much done before the house gets busy I had going for 2020-2023.

There are other big video ideas I have in the works but I wish to keep more secret as I’ve yet to even write a script for them. You’ll likely hear about them in the update video.

Shorts are a blessing and a curse for the channel. It’s a bit of a curse because I do want to be making full length videos, but a blessing because it has allowed me to reach wider audience, even with the at time confusing algorithm. Before my forced hiatus, I worked

And finally Streams. I’ve enjoy the fews streams that I’ve done and I’ve decided that I want to continue playing cassette beasts on the channel. I also might look into multi streaming sometimes for that sweet sweet twitch integration, but I want to focus on testing Multistreaming first before committing that.

Aside from that we’ll see. Streaming is a way for me to occasionally get footage while still interacting with views and some of my friends I new frequent but it all comes down to how much time I have and what I’m doing.

Finishing thoughts

I have a lot I want to do this coming year. I want to make more videos than I did this year. I want to share my enuthizam for tech, and some of the cool things happening in the space I think is neat. I want to push some of my creativity wherever I can. I want to see just how far I can take the channel within the next year.

If you’re new, you can see the YouTube channel here.

I’m even thinking about opening a Patreon, and Ko-fi. Might even make shirts I have ideas for. But those are lesser concerns right now.

I have a good feeling about next year, and I hope that you can join me in the next part of this journey.

hr
A a href="https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCCnep562d6A4eKeOy-J5xxQ/"Nemes Content/a Blog 2022.]]>

<![CDATA[Hello! It’s been awhile. Thought I’d update you guys on what’s been going on!

!--more--

Despite this being the year of balance (a meditation on improving time and energy management) the summer was more chaotic than I was expecting. This was in part to a new home office renovations, part trying get a passed relatives house to sell, and part work work. This made working on videos over the summer harder, and I’m only now properly getting back into the grove of things. I’ve been slowly working on videos about about an hour a day before I start or after work.

I’ll get more into my feelings about how the year of balance has gone in post closer to the end of the year, but I will say it is overall positive.

However one my goals for the Year of balance was for me to balance my work with me trying to be more consistent with YouTube and having 6 videos by the end of the year. Currently, I have 4 videos on the channel now that I count towards that goal. I only need two more to mark that part of the year of balance a success.

With four months left in the year I plan to meet that goal, but it will take the time to knuckle down, and finish off as many videos as I can before the year is up.

thus…

The Season of the Last Push!

In the same vain as the yearly themes you can have themes be the seasons was it’s a long enough time that it is perfect for long term improvement but not be the equipment of forever. The Season of the Last Push will be me attempting to get as many videos I have on backlog out as possible from September to November so next year I can focus on new content next year. The success will be if I get the hilariously low threshold of: Get the Second Rumbleverse Video Done Because I was procrastinating on that video since the first one was finished.

However, with any luck I get get at least one other video done before the year ends. I hope one of those will be a tech related video to see how those do as the gaming videos have mostly been hit or miss understandably. I think a focus of next year might be those tech related videos as I had a lot of with recording goofy A roll like I did with the capture card trilogy.

I also started streaming on YouTube which has been surprisingly fun. It won’t be a main focus of the channel but I’ve have some plans for that. Highlights will be worked on but it’s not a priority and I will not be counting them towards the goal.

Then once the end of November comes, December is the month of rest, just like last year. Whatever videos I don’t finished will be continued and or started in 2024. This includes the third video for Rumbleverse which I have decided I will try to post on the anniversary of the game shutting down.

Part of the month of rest will also be the month of cleaning out and restructuring my storage because I am once again nearing capacity on both my internal and external drives and I need to do something with the footage that I have collected (like for the animal crossing video). This way I can start 2024 fresh, and some room to breathe.

So that’s the plan going forward!
I'm Making a Callout Post ABOUT Twitter Dot Com

<![CDATA[THAT’S IT! This is the final! The VERY VERY LAST STRAW! This is my 13th reason why! (/j for the love of god). This is the possibly the start of the my indie web/ Fediverse Villian arc!

Related Video:
iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/XDGcqZBPim4" title="Making A Callout Post About Twitter Dot Com #twitter" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share" allowfullscreen/iframe

In short I’m done with twitter dot com.

!--more--

So What Made Me Snap?

It was going to be a Canada day like no other! I was going to post a short for every province in territory in Canada… AND THEN ELON! STARTED LIMITING TWEETS YOU CAN VIEW to 600! UNLESS you were a Twitter Blue Subscribe where you are privileged with BECAUSE of either, Bots, OR he couldn’t pay the twitter bill! not sure which is more true but I’m siding on the community because why would I trust a billionaire at this point?

BUT NOT ONLY THAT! But Elon then took away being able to view tweets without an account, and broke Nitter, and FeedBro\ which was how I was viewing tweets when I didn’t want to use the hellscape that is that site and its algorithm.

To a point… This felt personal now. Like regardless of how temporary these changes are, the timing SUCKED. And I was UPSETTI SPAGHETTI!

\Btw Freedbro seems to be working now so I’ll likely be following my friend and non syndicated meme accounts for the vibes that way, but I wish I could pull feeds to AnOtterRSS or Freeder (android app). Also, It’s totally possible this functionality will break again.

Upset and Disappointed. But Also Not Surprised

I can’t say I’m surprised by this no matter how pissed I am. While Elon did buy Twitter and Championed of “Free Speech” and “Town Square” (I don’t even want to get into the lies and dumb analogies with that. that’s a whole other blog post) it soon devolved into begging for 8 dollars and then taking away features instead of adding actual value to a social media site.

“I don’t care how many features Elon paywalls. I am not paying for Twitter Blue" - Dan, Dan VS Elon Probably

This isn’t even getting into the lacks content moderation, the site seeming to constantly break, Twitter Blue people being just the worst generally (unless they clearly got it for necessity), Elon’s flippant behaviour as CEO of the company.

And I’m not even going to talk about Elon himself because…

Look… I’ve blocked him along time ago. I can go on and on about him personally as if he’s my celebrity nemesis. But I won’t because I don’t want to make a 10 page essay on a guy who doesn’t even know or care that I exist. And if he does care that say more about him than me.

If you know, you know.

And it’s not even about him anyways. Well… Okay it kinda in the same way any CEO has the responsibility of their company. Elon of course has Twitter exploding in the most fantastical of ways, but we could have seen a more subdued fall under any CEO. People still complain about Youtube, and twitch, and now reddit who also got sighted their access to their API. No central social media is immune to policy change whether it be internal or their hand forced by law (See Tumblr’s issues when the first mastodon wave happened).

Twitter is long sinking ship. We have no idea where it will go down for good but many people are making their plans on where to go next, and hav understandable anxiety on what happens when one of the biggest Free (Gratis, user data is the payment) sites goes away or becomes unusable. We have a few options but neither are perfect solution.

Never JUST Be In One Place. Post Everywhere

One thing that we can take way from the recent trends is that individual sites die, but social media (for all its problems) is likely forever now. The user data is to valuable and if you want to look at it less_ cynically any users rely on social media to promote themselves and make new connections. Social Media are as much as a necessary tool of communication and out reach as it is a hell of unproductive meme and doom scrolling.

You’ll find that most how have anxiety about Twitter’s impending demise are artist and Content Creators. This is because social media sites in all their years of being around, is the easiest way of providing content and updates to Millions of people globally. This is imperative for those who rely on commission work for most if not all of their income.

That being said I have no doubt that there will be a twitter replacement that people will flock to for when it does become unusable or the light are long gone. Threads in fact already got people signing up because. And even seen the likes of Blue Sky, and cohost I think we are spoiled for choice for what will likely replace twitter.

However, a key thing that we should all remember is that we need to nomadic about this. Site can die, but Social media is forever. We should start considering syndicating our content to other social media aside from the main ones we use JUST IN CASE, and Back up useful information (cough cough reddit) to ensure important knowledge is not lost.

The Tragedy of twitter… The comedy of twitter? The Canon Event of Twitter’s down fall, is one that will be repeat until we run out of Net and/or the super heat death of universe. Do not be content with one site, become a Netizen of the Wider Web of the World.

Okay but what if you want to be extra?

IndieWeb/Fediverse: Reject Centralization Return to the Old Ways of the Web

If you want take this to an extreme might I recommend a Website? NO! not a carrd co, Not a link tree! A website! A real legit (probably through Wix or Squarespace but who cares lol) website! This is something that I’ve been thinking about for a long time now since finding out about Neocities, a geocities revival that free and open source! it also has a small social media layer to it, but it’s main draw is a fully customizable site! To your liking! A Personal Website that is all about you, and you special interests, and yes even your blorbos if you want!

It’s a lot of work, but it also seems fun. I’ll let you know if I ever get around to it but it is something that many tech creator have mentioned.

The biggest proponents when it comes to creators is Epos Vox (His stream guides and personal Neocities site, as some examples with more to come), Chris Titus Tech and Gardiner Bryant’s Heavy element. All have different goals and uses for their sites, but they’re all still owned by the content creators in question, and customized to their liking.

And you know, who said that Social Media should just be hosted by Big Tech tm? Heck during my time forums where all the rage, and they were usually operated by small teams. What if we could harness the grassroots. This is where the Fediverse comes in.

The Fediverse is a series of self hosted Social Media apps that can allow users to follow and talk to others across servers and even other services. Mastodon has become a sort of poster child for the Fediverse, but you also have Misskey (twitter like), Pleroma (Tumblr like), Peertube (Youtube like), Pixelfed (instagram like), and even Write.as (self hosted version is write freely). Each serve there own function, with their own UI and design principles, but can followed by anyone across the network.

For example, I on Mstdn.ca can follow people on Mastodon.social and Ohai.social (as some server examples). I can also follow ChrisWere’s Peertube Channel on share.tube and The Linux Experiments Podcast on a Castopod instance with my mastodon account.

Fediverse deserve its own video to try and describe it in full. because while Some features are straight forward, others can be a obtuse, and seem like extra steps for most people.

THE POWER (Choice) IS YOURS

I’ve mentioned that I’ve switched Twitter to update only mode as while all the decisions are terrible this still where many people are, but the recent BS is what made me finally push to break my habits. Life to short to be arguing with randos on the internet.

… though I have switched this to other habits. Tumblr has been my meme, and serotonin haven, and the ability to turn off the algorithmic parts of the sites. Mastodon will slowly be my twitter replacement as I which to support the project and the instance I’m on mstdn.ca.

And of course you have my rambles here! I get so much use out of these blogs.

Obviously, I can’t force you to come with me with to my Techno Hipster ways. I’ve made my choices and you’ll make yours. All I can do is explain my choices, and if they interested you come long of the ride. Find what sites appeals to you, whether that be Threads, BlueSky, Space hey or something else!

If you must use twitter then I recommend adding the Blue Blocker Extension as Twitter blue users are getting paid for engagement now (not sure if it’s verified). It’s pretty customizable, and I’ve found it to be reliable and useful!

And if you want to stick it to Elon, Think about using the old twitter layout. I haven’t used it yet but apparently it’s really good! Even runs the site faster! Lol.

Whatever the future holds for the internet, you’ll probably see me on the other side. And in the worst case scenario… We all just need to touch some grass. Doesn’t sound so bad.

hr
A a href="https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCCnep562d6A4eKeOy-J5xxQ/"Nemes Content/a Blog 2022.]]>
